India has a network of about 80 national parks and 440 sanctuaries dotted around the country.

While some are inaccessible, many have excellent facilities for visitors

Depending on the area and terrain, wildlife watching provides its own excitement.

It may be done from elephant back, from watch towers or even a boat - and the thrill of spotting herds of wild elephant, deer, a rhino or even a tiger, in their natural environment, is very difficult to match.

B R Hills Wildlife Sanctuaries
Also known as the Biligirirangana range of hills, this sanctuary is situated between the Cauvery and Tungabhadra rivers in Karnataka.

National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary
The large area of National Chambal park is shared by the three states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This sanctuary is famous for the rare gangetic dolphin.

Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuaries
The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the border of Goa. It abounds in flora and fauna. The topography is generally undulating with steep slopes with picturesque deep river valleys and rich hilly forest terrain.

Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuaries
Gorumara is a small sanctuary of nine square kilometres in north Bengal. It is home to the Great Indian one-horned Rhinoceros.

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuariese
Jaldapara Sanctuary is of 26 sq. km where one-horned rhinoceros, elephant, sambhar, barking deer, spotted deer etc. can be spotted.

Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuaries
The Rann of Kutch is located in the western Indian state of Gujarat. It is the habitat of the endangered Asiatic wild ass. You can also see the endangered Houbara bustard.

Sariska Wildlife Sanctuaries
Sariska is located in the sharp cliffs of hills and narrow valleys of the Aravallis some 200 km from Delhi. The forests are dry and deciduous. Within the sanctuary there are the ruins of medieval buildings. There is a 17th century castle on a sharp hilltop at Kankwari, which provides a panoramic view of flying Egyptian vultures and eagles.
